Kinda Fantastic: Tony Fein

BALTIMORE — The arrest of Baltimore Ravens rookie Tony Fein at the Inner Harbor was the result of police profiling, the undrafted linebacker’s agent said Monday.

Fein was arrested and charged Sunday with assaulting a police officer who confronted him after a security officer thought he saw Fein pass a handgun to a friend at the counter of a HarborPlace restaurant, said police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. It turned out to be a cell phone.

“Tony’s never owned a weapon in his life,” agent Milton Dee Hobbs said. “That weapon was a cell phone.”

When police questioned Fein, 27, he became belligerent and shoved the officer, Guglielmi said. Sgt. Joseph Donato was knocked to the ground and had an injured elbow, a police report said.

But Hobbs said it was the officer who was aggressive and that Fein didn’t shove him. He said police approached Fein because he was a black man wearing a sweat suit and hoodie.

Fein attended Ole Miss and was signed as a free agent in June following a minicamp tryout. He is an Iraq veteran who served in the Army for more than three years before playing college ball. In two seasons at Ole Miss, he had 136 tackles (77 solo) in 24 games, according to the Ravens Web site.

Well played Tony, well played — and I mean that in all seriousness.

Some d-bag cop decides to try to play tough guy because he thought he saw a weapon that was apparently capable of long-distance calls and text messaging. I’m glad Fein didn’t take his bullshit.

The officer was probably overly aggressive in his pursuit of the phone. Fein told him to go F himself — as he rightfully should have. The cop made a move, Fein reacted, and wouldn’t ya know? The guy that’s not an NFL athlete ended up on his ass and pressing charges because he’s a racist prick.

Of course, that’s just my theory, but I’d imagine it’s not too far from the truth. I’m sure the officer was scared shitless and tried to act as tough as possible to make up for his lack of physicality (and apparently vision). Fein was a little drunk and didn’t want to hear his shit.

The cop has the duty to protect the public, but it turns out Fein — after serving three years in the army —  knows all about duty. Fein better get off clean for this and I hope he makes the Ravens roster. And that asshole cop needs to be issued some glasses before he decides to be a hero, again.

Good luck to you Mr. Fein, you are Kinda Fantastic.
